Dodge City: Hail and Farewell

Wyatt's decision to turn in his badge for the peaceful life of an Arizona rancher are cause for rejoicing among Dodge City's criminal elements and sadness for the peace-loving citizens. Over Wyatt's objections, Mayor Kelley and Judge Tobin insist a going-away party for Earp and his brothers, while some of the local cowhands plan to punctuate the festivities with gun play. Earp doesn't want the celebration due to his fear of a disturbance as many of the southern cowhands still dislike him as a northerner and Marshal. They persuade Earp that the town must prove it has the confidence to exist peacefully without Earp. During his talks with Mayor Kelly and Judge Tobin Earp recalls many events that marked his stay in Dodge City which are recalled via flashbacks.

The Trail to Tombstone

Wyatt with his two brothers Virgil and Morgan and Doc Holliday are finally crossing into Arizona when they are stopped. Mr. Bywater of Wells Fargo has been sent to hire the Earps to work for the company. They dismiss the idea until Bywater tells them Dave Mather is nearby in Bootjack Camp. Wyatt and Doc want him for shooting Mike de Graff in the back at Dodge City. Doc wants to hang him there while Wyatt wants to turn him over to the law. Bywater and Doc try to tell Wyatt there is no law in Arizona but Wyatt won't believe it. Doc and Wyatt decide to go alone to Bootjack while Morgan and Virgil go on with the wagons. Bywater tells them he has an undercover man in the Mather gang giving them his name and description. Doc asks Mather's right hand man Whitey for permission to open a faro game in Bootjack knowing that Mather and his men will eventually claim he is cheating and try to shoot him. Earp waits outside to provide cover. The gang acts as expected with Wyatt and Doc finding their target but Wyatt learns Bywater and Doc were truthful about the lack of law in Arizona causing them to fail in their task and making a trip to Tombstone of interest to Wyatt.

Tombstone

Ignoring Doc Holliday's warning, Wyatt rides unarmed into Tombstone, the most lawless of Western boomtowns, and straight into the battle between miners and cowboys for control of the prosperous silver mining community. Just before Wyatt's arrival, some miners were greased and feathered for trying to enter the cowboys's Birdcage Theatre saloon. Wyatt's attempt to water his horse outside the miner's Oriental Saloon results in a fistfight that lands the ex-lawman and the four miners in the hospital. Wyatt knocked out is helped by Emma Clanton to the hospital adding to the belief Earp is with the Clantons. The mine boss Dick Gird gives the miners the okay to take Earp into custody but he refuses to issue company guns to them. The operator of the hotel and hospital Nellie Cashman tries to persuade Earp to leave town fast but Earp refuses. When Earp doesn't leave town soon enough to suit the miners, he gets into a gun battle in the abandoned mine tunnels that run beneath the town.

Wyatt's Decision

After his initial unfriendly reception in Tombstone, Wyatt wires his brothers that Pima County isn't a suitable area for the Earps to set up a cattle ranch. However, Nellie Cashman and Dick Gird who represents the miners ask Wyatt to stay on to bring law and order to Tombstone and even agree to let the disreputable Doc help him. Meanwhile, Emma Clanton tries to convince Wyatt to work with the Clantons but Wyatt declines. Wyatt discovers that the Clantons and their allies are determined to kill him on the road to Benson, so he, Doc Holliday and a group of miners lay a trap which results in multiple casualties among the cowboys. In order to officially arrest Clanton for attempted murder, Wyatt agrees to become a deputy marshal plus he learns his resignation as a US Deputy Marshal has been declined. There is still the matter of finding a judge who is not corrupt.

Lineup for Battle

A wounded man rides into Tombstone with three bullets in him. Mr. Ritter was shot by the Clanton gang who stole several horses from him. He recovers to tell Earp the details. Old Man Clanton stole the horses and has them in his corral on his ranch. Earp decides to ride alone to the Clanton ranch to arrest Old Man Clanton for horse theft. When he refuses to take a posse, a worried Nellie Cashman goes to Doc Holliday for help. Doc knows he can't change Earp's mind but he has a plan. Earp rides alone to the ranch. Old Man Clanton is gone but Emma Clanton asks him to stay to talk to him. She tries to convince him that the Clanton's are not outlaws and shows she has an interest in him herself but Earp stands by the law. Meanwhile, Doc goes to three men who owe him and Earp money or their life for help. The Clantons return with the idea to kill Earp but Doc's group stops them. Old Man Clanton is arrested but events keep Earp from bringing him in and starts the feud between them.

The Nugget and the Epitaph

Earp's introduction to Tombstone continues when the crooked editor Dameron of The Nugget writes a libelous story about Earp and intentionally misspells his name. Earp confronts Dameron only to be told there is illegal selling of liquor in his county. While tracking down the two men involved, he meets their friend John P. Clum who had been an Indian Agent at San Carlos followed by an attempt to run a newspaper in Tucson. Clum joins Earp in Tombstone where Earp and others convince him to start an honest newspaper he calls The Epitaph. Nellie gets wind of a Clanton attempt to breakup the new press on the trip by wagon from Benson. Earp, Doc and others break up the attempt but two men are able to set fire to the canvas cover for the newspaper office. Dameron is not finished with his attempts to kill the rival paper.

The Perfidy of Shotgun Gibbs

John Clum to started a honest newspaper in Tombstone with the next step to elect an honest Judge. Will Spicer from back east has agreed to run against Judge Griskim who is tied in with the outlaws. Earp realizes the election will not be honest so he asks his old deputy Shotgun Gibbs to join him in Tombstone. On the way to Tombstone Shotgun is stopped and asked by two Clanton men to vote ten times for Griskam for ten dollars as they provide him false papers. Upon learning from Earp the situation, Shotgun offers to return the ten dollars but Earp tells him to not only keep the money and papers but to vote in all ten precincts in Tombstone for Griskam. In a meeting with the honest city officials, Earp suggests they allow the vote to take place. After the ballot boxes are collected, they are stolen from Nellie Cashman by masked outlaws. Earp with the help of Doc, Shotgun, and Dirk Gerd make their play to recover the boxes and arrest the Clanton gang. They along with Griskam are brought up in front of Judge Spicer for their first taste of justice which includes a $10,000 bond. Out of his mind with anger, Old Man Clanton offers $2,000 for death of Shotgun Gibbs who tricked his men and his mule Roscoe.

You Can't Fight City Hall

With only an honest newspaper, honest judge, and a Citizen's Safety Committee on Earp's side, his clamp down on crime is hurting the Clanton gang and in turn the Ten Percent Ring in Tucson. Old Man Clanton goes to Tucson to complain and make his ten percent payment. The ring leaders agree with Clanton saying they have a plan to change things but Clanton must be patient. The plan is to split the eastern part of Pima County off to make the new Cochise County with a new sheriff. Sheriff Johnny Behan arrives in Tombstone to investigate the situation there. He has the interest of the Safety Committee by suggesting he can get matching funds for a real hospital. He lets Earp in on the news that there will be a new Cochise County with the hope Earp will run for the office of Sheriff. Earp doesn't believe he has the support but Behan tells him he can improve his standing with the citizens. A stagecoach robbery with a murder appears to give Earp that chance but Doc suspects a setup. Earp with Doc and Shotgun arrest the bandits but events during the return to jail lead Earp to believe Behan may have an ulterior motive.

Behan Shows His Hand

Earp was forced to release the four men who robbed a stagecoach and murdered a guard to save the wounded Shotgun Gibbs. John Clum and others want to form a posse for Earp to lead to recapture the men but Earp would prefer to catch them one by one without a posse to prevent any citizens from being hurt. The Ten Percent Ring in Tucson gives Old Man Clanton orders to have the four men give themselves up in the new Cochise County as they won't be convicted. The new sheriff of Cochise County, Johnny Behan, is given orders to eliminate the only witness to the holdup and murder which he reluctantly agrees to do. In Tombstone Behan gives the news to Earp that Behan is the new sheriff so Earp turns in his Pima County star although Behan wants him as his top deputy. Furthermore, Behan says he has told Clanton to turn in the four men. The men surrender but Earp is still suspicious. The Citizens Safety Committee decides to name Clum as mayor so he can name Earp a city deputy. As the men come to trial, Behan's plan to free the men and carry out the Ten Percent Ring orders works putting Earp on notice.

The Ring of Death

With Earp continuing to cause trouble in Tombstone, Dan Priddy the head of the 10 Percent Ring in Tucson decides it is time to end the interference. He has Stake Brown set up a high stakes poker game in Tucson at the Congress Hall Saloon to draw in Doc Holliday. The details are handled by Bones Brandon and his henchman The Paralized Kid whose left arm is paralyzed. Doc takes the stage to Tucson where he meets Stake Brown. The two run into a silver prospector named Limey Parkhamp who claims to have hit a strike. Brown stakes him but Limey overhears the bartender talking to The Paralized Kid about Earp. His trip takes him through Tombstone where he tells Nellie Cashman who he knows and Earp. Later he remembers more details so Nellie and Shotgun tell him to use her horse to warn Earp who left an hour earlier because of a telegram from Doc asking for help. He catches Earp who goes to his friend Bob Paul in Tucson for help. Paul outlines the design of the Congress Hall Saloon and the two put together a plan. they rescue Doc and learn Priddy was behind the attempt. Earp confronts Priddy but it is Doc who secretly puts an end to the conflict.

Wyatt Wins One

Earp is summoned to Fort Huachuca by Colonel Ingram. Earp learns that Old Man Clanton filed a claim with the Army that the Apaches stole $7000 worth of cattle intended for the Army. If true, Clanton is owed the $7000 but Ingram nor Earp believe that the Apaches led by young Geronimo son of Old Geronimo stole the cattle. Ingram cannot talk to the Apaches without stirring up trouble but Earp believes he can. He has Gibbs find an Apache to lead them to Geronimo. For $20 Low Dog caught smuggling firewater agrees to take them to young Geronimo. Earp meets with Emma Clanton to see if she can convince Old Man Clanton to come clean but he won't listen to her. Geronimo denies taking the cattle plus he agrees to help find the cattle and take them to the Army for pay. The cattle are found in Dice Box Canyon guarded by two of Clanton's men. The Army requests Clanton come to the fort to discuss the situation. Old Man Clanton has his boys round up his men to handle things. Col. Ingram gives Old Man Clanton a lesson while getting Geronimo to agree not to take revenge but the Clantons want revenge against Earp and Gibbs as the Clanton gang lays for them.

The Fugitive

Earp staked out at the Mexican border captures Manuel Vasquez who is wanted for the murder of a man in Tombstone that was witnessed by several people. Earp stops at Bisbee Stage Station for water and food for the return trip. The owner recognizes Earp and Manuel as a Behan posse has just left there headed south. After Earp leaves, the owner sends a worker for the posse. Earp rides fast with Manuel but they are captured by the men of Don Ignacio Vasquez, the father of Manuel. Don Ignacio a friend of Earp's tries to talk Earp into releasing his son but Earp refuses suggesting that Manuel may be freed at his trial in Tombstone. Don Ignacio decides to have Earp dig his own grave but Manuel's fiancé Felicia intervenes giving away a family secret as the posse arrives to take Manuel.

Earp thinking he had left Ned Buntline behind when he left Dodge City is surprised by the appearance of Buntline along with a sketch artist in Tombstone. As usual Buntline continues to ignore the danger and seriousness of outlaws as he thinks of them as modern day Robinhoods. Shotgun Gibbs arrests Buckskin Frank Leslie for carrying a gun when a practical jokes goes awry. Earp is an old friend of Buckskin who is fast and accurate with a gun but a real practical joker. Buntline is invited by Old Man Clanton to the ranch for dinner with the family putting Emma on edge. Earp decides to teach Buntline a lesson so he asks Buckskin to play practical joke that puts Buntline in fear for his life.

The Paymaster

Earp hears a rumor in a bar that there is a $15,000 Army payroll going out on the stage. Back at his office Major Fletcher the Army paymaster is there to ask Earp's help in taking the $15,000 from Tombstone to Fort Breckinridge. The trip from Tombstone to Benson is by stage followed by a trip across the desert. Earp has Shotgun take horses and mules to Benson for the final leg of the trip. As the stage is loaded Earp mentions to Fletcher he has not kept their cargo secret. Fletcher has a shotgun on the stage along with himself and Earp. The other passengers include a young man named Ramon, a woman named Miss Crystal, and a man named Carp. As the stage approaches Benson six men try to stop the stage but Earp with agreement from Fletcher has the stage out run them. At Benson they meet Shotgun and Earp recommends they stay overnight and start out the next morning. That night Earp is awakened and finds Fletcher knocked out and tied up with Carp and the money missing. Earp decides to track Carp immediately leading to unexpected results.

The Clantons' Family Row

Curly Bill Brocius and Johnny Ringo are fighting over a horse Brocius shot that belonged to Ringo. Although Brocius has replaced the horse, there is still a grudge over circumstances. Brocius and Ringo are in Tombstone with their primary sidekicks Larkin and Irish Gibbons who are egging the two toward a gunfight. The news of the fight has spread with Doc taking bets on the outcome. Interestingly both the legal and illegal element want to see the fight stopped. Law and order types don't want a fight while the outlaw Old Man Clanton doesn't want to lose two good men. When two equal gunfighters clash usually neither comes out alive. Emma Clanton and Old Man Clanton both talk to Earp with Old Man Clanton complaining to Judge Spicer as well. Conviently Sheriff Behan is out of town. Spicer suggest Earp find some way to arrest the two men. Earp and Shotgun make the arrests upsetting Doc but it doesn't resolve the matter.

The Matchmaker

Everybody like Nellie Cashman so when Shotgun Gibbs sees her kiss Earp for raising cash for a new organ, he decides the two should be married. He tries talks with Nellie about the issue and tries to persuade Doc to speak with Earp. However, Doc feels marriage is more like a life sentence than bliss. Shotgun asks Nellie and Earp to a dinner with him where his conversation is anything but coy. He leaves the two alone to continue the conversation in which it is clear there is an attraction. The rumors about their interest have spread to Emma Clanton who besides being unhappy about it, raises the issue with her father, Phin, and Ike. Phin and Ike sensing an opportunity to prove they can think for themselves, concoct a plan to use Nellie to ambush Earp. Emma Clanton warns Earp who thinks Old Man Clanton is behind the plan but he isn't.

Get Shotgun Gibbs

The Ten Percent Ring in Tucson has decided on Shiloh Smith to take Dan Priddy's place as their leader. Sheriff Johnny Behan has been called in to discuss revenge for the killing of Dan Priddy. Smith first suggests killing Earp but Behan says he didn't kill Priddy but that it was more likely Doc Holliday but he has too many criminal friends in Tombstone. Behan suggests instead that they let him have Earp's lead deputy Shotgun Gibbs killed which he believes will discourage Earp into leaving to which the ring agrees. Behan has them send Six-Mule Marcy to Tombstone to lure Gibbs into an ambush. Gibbs and Marcy soon become friends based on their love for their mules. Gibbs says Roscoe is under the weather so Marcy suggest racing him against two of Marcy's mules. Against the advice of Earp Gibbs goes along with the idea believing Marcy is only interested in the mules. Neither Earp or Doc feel good about the race when they hear Behan and Marcy both bet Rosoe doesn't finish the race.

Wells Fargo Calling Marshal Earp

The Wells Fargo Company asks Wyatt Earp to help them protect the shipment of silver ingots from stagecoach robbers on their Charleston-to-Benson line. They are taking over the route from Sandy Bottoms Stage Line who had nine holdups in one month. Earp asks an undercover agent Fred for some advice which he gets. Earp and Thacker of Wells Fargo visit Charles Dakin to ask him to change from 85 pound to 300 pound ingots. The thieves won't be able to carry the bars on horses and a wagon will be easy to track. Earp, Shotgun, and Thacker watch the stage being held up but the robbers are forced to bury the crates and return with hammers and chisels to break up the ingots. Earp is sure that the robberies are staged by an organized gang of thieves who have inside information regarding shipments and is setting a trap for the criminals which includes a surprise catch.

A Murderer's Return

George McKean spots Dobie Jenner peaking in his store window in Tombstone. He goes to Earp in a panic telling Earp that Jenner must have escaped from Yuma and should be jailed or run out of town as he is dangerous. Given no proof against Jenner, Earp decides to visit Jenner at the Cashman Hotel to hear his side. Jenner readily admits he killed a miner he tried to rob after showing Earp his parole papers for his early release. He says he has no grudge against McKean but asks about his wife Phoebe who Jenner was originally to marry. Earp replies she is well. That evening the McKeans both notice Jenner outside their house. Phoebe decides to go outside to see Jenner after Gearge tries to forbid her. She tells Jenner he is always welcome but as George comes outside with a pistol baiting Jenner, Earp intercedes. Jenner leaves with Earp telling him he has decided to leave town to prospect. A week later after he has left, Phoebe having left her husband checks into the Cashman Hotel with George following her later. Phoebe asks Earp to warn Jenner making Earp suspect there is more to the story than anyone is telling him.

The Big Fight at Total Wreck

Dick Gird has reopened the Total Wreck mine with both Cornish Jacks (Welsh) and Irish Terriers miners working in it. The two group are in constant fights with each other due to the feud between the two groups in the old countries which has not dissipated in Arizona. Tired of having to treat the "wounded" Nellie Cashman decides to settle the dispute between the groups for once in all. Earp tells her it is not possible and that Gird should separate the two groups to keep peace. She goes anyway on her own to the mine to talk to them followed by Earp who wants to simply return her to Tombstone safely. Earp is forced to fight the leaders of the two groups starting with Jock Welsh followed by Tim Shawniigan. Earp beats both but Nellie refuses to leave with him. To settle the feud she decides to have a contest between the two groups in which she expects neither side to win. They will drill two foot holes with hammers and drills. The Irish are missing their best man so Earp agrees to take his place although he has no experience. The two leaders, however, decide to secretly add a provision to the rules that blows up in their face.

Frontier Surgeon

The Tinkham Brown gang holds up the Wells Fargo stage taking $15,000 but during the robbery Brown was severely wounded by a bullet. Realizing the gang may come for Doc Goodfellow who is the only doctor in fifty miles, Earp contacts the doctor. Doc Goodfellow refuses to tell Earp if he is contacted due to medical ethics but he realizes Earp will follow him. Doc Goodfellow taken to Brown's camp, finds Brown with a bullet lodged next to his spine and his legs paralyzed. He tells Brown that his only choice is a truce with Earp as he needs Doc Holliday to help hold the retractors while Earp applies ether. Brown orders the gang to follow along. After an edgy meeting they operate which appears to be successful. Doc Goodfellow tells Brown to stay still for three days and Earp agrees to stay away until Brown can move. Earp is forced to explain his actions to John Thacker of Wells Fargo who reluctantly holds back his report. Brown not trusting Earp decides to move after one day leading to Brown needing Doc Goodfellow putting him in danger and to a conflict between the gang, Doc Goodfellow, and Earp's posse.

Let's Hang Curly Bill

Earp is concerned that older Marshal Fred White is too careless in his interactions with the Cowboys and others in his job. He warns White that he can't always talk someone into doing what he wants but White feels comfortable with his actions. Curly Bill Brocius is celebrating his birthday with friends at a saloon. The Clanton gang arrives in town to help him celebrate. Earp has his deputies on top of the situation while White asks Sheriff Behan to help control the bunch but Behan refuses. As the deputies including Earp arrest drunks shooting guns on Allen Street, White confronts the drunk Brocius for his pistol. Brocius willing to comply pulls his pistol to hand it to White barrel first. As White grabs and yanks it, the gun fires mortally wounding White. Earp seeing the incident pistol whips Brocius and arrests him. White gives a written statement it was his fault before he dies but the citizens who like White want to lynch Brocius. Earp plants dynamite in the street to stop them plus he is forced to take an unusual position in the trial of Brocius.

Silver Dollar

Earp approaches as an amorous man tries to kiss an attractive young blonde in front of the Alhambra Saloon. Earp knocks the man out followed by telling the owner Dave Hanson that she no longer wishes to work there. Nellie Cashman takes her in but warns the doe-eyed Earp he should be careful about vouching for the girl known as Silver Dollar. Doc and Shotgun are not happy about Earp's interest in Silver Dollar but feel happier when Earp has Shotgun wire Pinkerton for information on Silver Dollar. Later Rafe Collins rides into town looking for Silver Dollar. After she shoots him with a derringer, he claims he gave her $1500 and wanted to marry her while she claims he attacked her in her room. When Earp arrests her, she lets him but states next time she will shoot Earp. At the trial the jury quickly finds her not guilty and she returns to the Alhambra. A Mr. Clark accusing Silver Dollar of stealing $5000 that is found in her suitcase leads to a showdown between her and Earp in which she fires on Earp. He had made sure she had blanks but the truth is known or thought to be about her as Doc and Shotgun take action.

The Case of Senor Huerto

Relations between the Mexicans south of the border and the people in Tombstone near the border were often far from harmonious. Senora Huerta and her teenage son Miguel arrive with a cart and coffin asking Earp to turn over the body of Huan Huerta who was murdered in Tombstone. Huan was her husband. Earp does not recognize the name nor does he recall a murder involving such a person. They don't trust Earp but do decide to let him read a letter they received that was in English saying Huerta was murdered by a Mr. Granby. Horace Granby runs a mine but is known to be mild-mannered and not thought one to commit murder. Earp helps them ask around town with no results so he visits Granby who is as puzzled. Miguel stalks Earp to Granby and tries to attack him with a knife but Granby escapes. In Tombstone a puzzled Earp loans a busted Doc a $100 for poker for an IOU from Doc. The players are enjoying enchiladas made by their cook known as Cortez or by Doc as the Conquistador. When Doc repays Earp, Earp notices the writing on the IOU matches the letter. Doc comes clean as Miguel tries to attack Granby in town and Earp decides to treat the Huertas to some enchiladas.

The Arizona Lottery

The Ten Percent Ring in Tucson, Arizona has created a lottery to gather funds for new schools that is supposed to pay $380,000 to the winners. A spate of murders around Tombstone has Doc Holliday suggesting to Earp the victims were buyers of winning tickets but the winning numbers have not been announced yet. Mr. Milligan who works for the ring leader Shiloh Smith comes into a saloon to ask Johnny-Benind-the-Deuce for a private conversation. Johnny's girlfriend Clara gives him a derringer for protection in the meeting which Johnny is forced to use to kill Milligan who asked to buy Johnny's lottery ticket. Earp holds Johnny in custody for protection and tells Clara to not worry. Earp with Doc and Shotgun assume Smith has a list of the winners with him in Tucson of which they steal a copy. Later, a man breaks into Clara's room and steals her and Johnny's ticket. She sees Smith receive it and follows him to recover the ticket. He refuses to return it forcing Clara to wound him. Earp captures the men trying to redeem the big winning tickets for Smith. Johnny and Clara go to trial but Earp hopes for them to go free but Johnny puts a scare into Clara which may derail his plans.

Don't Get Tough with a Sailor

Captain David Rowland, retired naval officer, has a ranch in Arizona staffed with a rugged group of ex-sailors. He has fought off Apaches and outlaws on his own for years. His men caught two members of the Clanton gang rustling horses. Rowland has locked them up in his private "brig". Clanton tells Sheriff Behan to get his men freed or else. Behan decides to have Earp and his men help free the men by having Earp take them in to custody. Earp with no real choice goes along and retrieves the men partly through the help of Mrs. Rowland. Behan then uses a writ of habeas corpus to free the thieves from Earp's jail. An irate Earp has Doc and Shotgun recapture the thieves but in the meantime an equally irate Rowland rides into Tombstone to arrest Behan taking him to his ranch. There, he finds Behan guilty sentencing him to five years in his brig. Earp arrives with the recaptured prisoners at Rowland's ranch to find Behan behind bars and wanting out. While he tries to get Behan free, Clanton attacks the ranch in what appears to Earp as a too obvious path.

The Scout

Army scout Tom Barrows nicknamed the "Listener" rides into Tombstone after leading the Army in the capture of renegade Apaches lead by Francisco who he killed with no reason. He earned his nickname for cutting off and wearing the ears of the Indians he has killed. He is planning to return to his home in the mountains with his Apache wife but Earp suggests he wait due to Apache animosity toward him. He declines to wait so Earp decides to join him to see his place and meet his wife. They find Apache tracks in the area and Barrows place burned with his wife stabbed to death in it. The knife is from the Francisco clan. Barrows seems to not care that his wife was killed saying he can get another. Barrows knows Earp can't do anything to catch the guilty Apaches but Earp goes to the reservation to report the incident. Once there he learns from Cochise's eldest son Tahzay that five Apaches have been killed by Barrows who left his mark on them. Earp, Indian Agent Smith, and Tahzay lead a group of Apaches after Barrows with the whole tribe scouting the area for him. Earp wants Barrows alive but in the end only learns what drove him.

The Buntline Special

The Clanton's are surprised when Billy Clanton arrives home from school in San Antonio. His mother's wish was that Billy be different from the other Clantons by finishing school and going to college. When she sees Billy, Emma tries to ensure Old Man Clanton follows through on mama's desire. Billy with the urging of Phin and Ike has other ideas. He shows his older brothers he is a good shot at a moving target proving he learned something at the military academy. In Tombstone Earp drops off his Buntline with Mr. Spangenberg the gunsmith for repairs who tells him he can pick it up in an hour. Billy needing clothes rides into Tombstone to buy them plus a gift for Emma. He stops in the gunsmith's shop to pick up a gun. While Spangenberg is distracted, he picks up the repaired Buntline and decides to steal it. When Earp learns it is stolen, he is able to determine Billy stole it. At the Clanton ranch after Emma finds the gun she tells Old Man Clanton who tells Billy to return it but Billy, Phin, and Ike have other ideas.

China Mary

Being a mining town Tombstone is full of people from other countries which includes a large group of Chinese. Many do not speak English so they tend to stay segregated from the other citizens. Relations between them and others have been relatively calm but resentment is arising among some due to their treatment. The result is a series of assaults and robberies of mostly drunk men on the street. After one Earp finds a Chinese ring that he suspects belongs to one of the attackers. Earp forces a visit with the Chinese leader China Mary often called their "queen". She confirms the ring has a Chinese symbol meaning love but will not tell Earp to whom it belongs. After an attack in which a man is killed and it is confirmed Chinese were involved, Earp tries again to talk to China Mary. When she again refuses to help, Earp sets his own trap with himself as bait. He is able to catch one of the three attackers but no one is able to positively identify him. With little choice Earp releases Li Kung to China Mary who Earp suspects is his mother. She promises to prevent future attacks and does so in a painful way.

His Life in His Hands

To protect their shipments, Earp has convinced Wells Fargo to use undercover agents but the job is dangerous. Earp and his men interrupt a stagecoach robbery stopping all the men but one who returns wounded to Clanton. Old Man Clanton and his boys Phin and Ike suspect J.B. Ayres who runs a roadhouse in Charleston is their leak due to the loose talk in his place. Earp and the Wells Fargo agent in Tombstone are nervous that Ayres is in danger so Earp suggests letting Clanton take the next silver shipment but Thacker refuses to go along telling Earp he has changed the route for the shipment to Lizard Tooth's Canyon trail. Earp arrests Ayres in front of the Clanton men taking him to the Tombstone jail. He tells the reluctant Ayres to give Clanton the route change. Old Man Clanton decides to hold Ayres as a prisoner until he checks out the information. The holdup is a success but Thacker is furious with Earp. Old Man Clanton is still not sure of Ayres so he asks him to help fence the silver. Ayres agrees but on his return to his place, he is followed. They see him wave off Earp who decides Old Man Clanton needs more proof Ayres is his man so Earp decides to put his life on the line to do it.

Behan's Double Game

Wells Fargo undercover agent J.B. Ayres informs Earp that Old Man Clanton is preparing to move some of the silver he has stolen. Ayres knows the silver is stashed somewhere around Cactus Well. Earp secretly tells Doc and Shotgun about it with plans for them to catch the men at a water well. They try to leave secretly but Sheriff Behan spots them leaving. He gathers a posse to follow them. The three find the Clanton men taking two prisoner plus the wagon with $10,000 silver but Behan catches them before they can go after the others. Earp has Behan with Doc take the prisoners and silver to Tombstone while he and Shotgun trail the others. He returns to find the silver turned over to Wells Fargo but Behan says the men escaped by overpowering Deputy Cavanaugh. A furious Earp agrees to a duel with Behan as plain civilians. Earp not only beats Behan to the draw without firing but whips Behan in a fist fight. Earp again leaves with Doc and Shotgun to catch the Clanton men with the rest of the silver but Behan tells Clanton he is on his own. Earp decides to use the resources of a friend to out smart Clanton and Behan.

The Salvation of Emma Clanton

A reluctant Emma Clanton asks Nellie Cashman for help. Old Man Clanton wants Emma to marry Gringo Hawkby, a vicious rustler but Emma wants nothing to do with Hawkby. She asks Nellie to speak to her father to which Nellie agrees. After discussing it with Earp, Nellie drives to the Clanton ranch. Old Man Clanton complains that his three boys are unfit to take over the ranch so he is looking for a strong man to marry Emma to take over. His real concern, however, is that Emma is sweet on Earp but Nellie dispels that concern. Hawkby and his gang massacre a wagon carrying clothes and silver which he decides to give to Emma and Old Man Clanton to seal the engagement. A reluctant Old Man Clanton appears to back track over Emma's objections. Emma sneaks off to Tombstone for refuge with Nellie aided by Earp who is placed in a tight spot with Hawkby on Emma's trail.

John Clum, Fighting Editor

In Tombstone Mayor John P. Clum runs the only honest newspaper and source of news. Old Man Clanton is afraid someone in Washington may see a copy and learn the truth. He orders Sheriff Johnny Behan to run Clum out of town. They start by turning over Clum's wagon and trying to destroy his newspapers pushing Clum to attack Dameron of The Nugget but Earp breaks up the fight. He tells Clum his temper is going to get him into trouble. Behan then hires two goons to break into the paper and bust up the press but Clum sets a trap for them and again Earp stops the fight. Earp receives news from Doc Holliday that Behan may have someone attack Clum on the stage as he goes to meet his wife. Earp has Clum leave the stage at the first water stop with the hope he can stop the stage holdup but he is too late. Clum's temper gets him into serious trouble due to a libel suit with Earp his only hope to prove the truth.

The Judge

An elderly man arrives on the stage in Tombstone. He is looking for Curt Dance who is a known gunfighter and outlaw. When the man finds Dance in the Alhambra, Dance doesn't recognize him. But, when the man tells dance when they last met, Dance wants nothing to do with him. Earp asks the man to give Dance his privacy unless he has a charge. The man continues to stalk Dance sitting and staring at him each day as he plays cards. The man is later found beaten so they take him to his room at the Cashman Hotel. John Clum goes with Earp to talk to him and recognizes him as a well known but retired Judge Amos Waggoner. The Judge refuses to tell Earp what his interest in Dance is so Earp sends a wire for details. He learns the Judge once acquitted Dance on a murder charge. Earp hears the Judge has challenged Dance to a duel but Earp stops Dance taking his place. The Judge fires an empty gun at Earp thinking he is Dance and faints. Earp guesses the truth which the Judge confirms. Earp has a plan to remove Dance from circulation for a while but his plan fails.

The Court vs. Doc Holliday

Doc Holliday barely able to stay in the saddle rides into Tombstone. Earp believes him to be drunk while the Wells Fargo agent Thacker searches Doc's saddlebags finding $4000 in US bonds. The safe in the Wells Fargo office was blown and $40,000 stolen by two men one of whom was recognized as Doc Holliday. Thacker wants Doc arrested so Earp and Shotgun take him to the jail where they try to sober him up but he needs sleep saying he was in a poker game earlier. Earp is taking the charges seriously but once Doc "sobers up" he makes light of the issue. While Earp asks for a list of his enemies, Old Man Clanton offers to help saying Doc is one of his two friends in town while the criminal element take up a $3,000 collection to pay for a lawyer along with offers of alibis. Doc decides to refuse the money and help saying he will defend himself in court. When Doc enters a saloon, he spots Ratsy Melbourne who he thought might have framed him. He sends a message to Clanton about Ratsy. Meanwhile, Judge Spicer refuses to delay Doc's trial.

Roscoe Turns Detective

A group of Army mule and horse remounts are stolen from a stable in Tombstone leaving the owner severely injured. Roscoe is hurt on the flank by a mining mule's cleated horseshoe from being kicked. Shotgun asks that Doc Goodfellow look at Roscoe plus he tells Earp Roscoe can identify the stolen animals and the thieves. Earp along with everyone else has little faith nor is Roscoe going to be able to testify in court. The next day Lt. Grange and a corporal bring in the gypsy Louis Vanik with two mules. They have the wrong shoes nor does Roscoe signal he has seen them. Grange can't believe Earp is listening to a mule still wants Vanik jailed and tried as he no papers for the mules. Earp, Shotgun, and Roscoe start making the rounds looking for the stolen animals and thieves. They find mules Roscoe acknowledges in a barn. The owners tell Earp they bought them from Skinner Malone. There Roscoe finds the mule that kicked him. Earp takes them in but Judge Spicer won't accept Roscoe as evidence. The stable owner provides documentation that helps but there is still the actual thief for Roscoe to catch.

The Posse

Earp dislikes posses but when word reached him that the California San Berdoo Gang was coming to Arizona on its way to Old Mexico he was forced to use one to cover the huge territory. At the tombstone Bank an officer suggests taking a young clerk Arleigh Smith. Smith is from the East with little experience with guns or horses. Although his wife is reluctant to let him go, he finds the experience interesting especially with the opportunity to work with Earp. Earp decides to have the "greener" drive the chuck wagon. Although truly green at the job, he enjoys it. Doc tells him he was picked because he would drive the wagon or cook. They kill one gang member and wound another. He rides in the wagon with Smith who is told to withhold water until he talks. During his first gunfight he runs but Earp still has faith in him. Eventually he volunteers and Earp accepts his proposal to scout posing as a green prospector. He pulls it off returning home with a special respect for Earp.

The Confidence Man

A young man Billy Costane appears in John Clum's newspaper with a question. He is looking for an Evangeline Murphy but no one seems to know who she is. Clum does not recognize the name but a picture of her tells him it is Evie Marlowe, a saloon singer. Billy drops in at the Alhambra to hear her sing and introduce himself. He enjoys her singing but she has no clue as to who he is. Her boyfriend Carl Duval seeing the confrontation knocks Billy out. Clum helps Billy and takes him to Earp along with Evie and Carl. Billy saw her ad in a magazine and has been corresponding with her for months. Six months earlier they became engaged with Billy sending her %500 to pay her debts and fare to come to him. Earp decides to start with Sam Dutton the photographer. He seems to be lying but Earp will know more after talking to the postmaster and checking Dutton's records. However, that night a fire in Dutton's shop and a dead Dutton force Earp to look elsewhere for answers.

The Toughest Judge in Arizona

Two masked men hold up Mr. Granby for a $4500 payroll as he stops Spouter for water. One of the men calls the other Charlie leading Spouter to swear to Earp that Charlie Parks is one of the robbers. Parks, meanwhile, is visiting Alma Ross who he loves. However, she works with the Clanton gang as a fence for the items they steal and refuses to leave them. The robbers pass the stolen money to her. She pulls $200 she owes Parks from it which she gives to him. When Earp picks up Parks, he finds four twenties with serial numbers matching the stolen money. Judge Spicer is given a warning to release Parks on the trail so at Parks, arraignment he decides to hold him. Earp and Spicer question Parks' guilt due to talk heard by Doc but they have no leads. Spicer refuses Earp's offer of protection on his trip to Charleston for a trial. Earp, Doc, and Shotgun follow Spicer finding him held by Ringo's gang. They rescue Spicer but decide to search Ross's room finding several stolen items. She is put on trial and Earp uses Parks's love for her to push Ringo into turning in the real robbers - at it seems Ringo's peril.

My Enemy - John Behan

A Wells Fargo office is held up and an agent killed by three men who take a sizable amount of cash. The recent robberies in the area has the agent Thacker under pressure from the main office. He asks Earp to take a posse out but Earp who dislikes posses refuses. He believes the outlaws who know the local territory make it dangerous for a posse. After Earp's refusal, Thacker goes to Sheriff Behan who Earp believes will ignore Thacker since Behan works with the Clantons. Thacker is offering a $10,000 reward which draws Behan's attention. Thacker is willing to give $1,000 front money for a posse so Behan goes to Old Man Clanton hoping he will split the $10,000 with him while framing someone. Old Man Clanton besides hating Behan refuses to frame an innocent man to the gallows but Ike thinks otherwise. Secretly, Behan gives Ike the $1000 advance money while arresting Will Morris, a local rancher who Ike hates. Ike's girlfriend Virginia Rollins along with Nellie Cashman tell Earp she was with Morris secretly due to her father. Earp wants to catch Behan in the frame but only forces Behan and Ike to give up the real robbers. Old Man Clanton then wants to kill Behan but will or can Earp save Behan?

Wyatt's Bitterest Enemy

Dodie Jones from Tucson visits Old Man Clanton at his home. Besides a personal run in with Earp, Jones brings word that the trouble in Tombstone has reached Washington which is considering a new governor for the Arizona Territory. The Ten Percent Ring has decided Old Man Clanton must kill Earp. Clanton is not against it but knows it will be difficult as he can't take his men into Tombstone to do it. Thacker of Wells Fargo hears that Clanton is going to plan an ambush for Earp. Earp sends Doc and Shotgun out to learn more details. Doc is able to squeeze some details indicating Clanton plans to rob a stage and wait to ambush Earp. Doc sends for Morgan Earp to help convince Earp the threat is real. The Skelton Canyon stage is held up and late but Earp declines to go after it. His plan is to take the Clanton ranch and catch the men as they return there. Curly Brocius and a few men tire and leave. Old Man Clanton in Tombstone sees Earp and the posse go in the wrong direction. He brings the men still waiting back to the ranch and a surprise.
